!!! UF Group Tourney Begins !!!

Thu Oct 5, 2006, 10:52 PM by =trystianity:icontrystianity:

I hope everyone is as excited as the admins and judges are about the Ultra Fractal Group Tournament. There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes setting this up, and I feel that it will be a fair and strong competition. All of the specific information for the tournament is listed in the Ultra Fractal Tournament Announcement Journal and I would encourage the competitors to review the information.

Round One – Advanced Division

The challenge for this first Advanced round is – “A Tribute to Gilles Nadeau”

As a tribute to one of the best fractal artists of all time, Gilles Nadeau, this first round will require that all images be constructed using Gilles’ formulas and coloring algorithms, found in gnd.ufm and gnd.ucl. (Be sure to update your formulas!)

Here are the round rules:

:bulletred: Images must be made using formulas and coloring algorithms from gnd.ufm and gnd.ucl ONLY! Parameters will be required to ensure that the image follows the round challenge.

:bulletred: Image must be created entirely in UF (minimal post allowed) and the image must a new creation.

:bulletred: Entries allowed from tournament competitors only. You may only submit one image, and you cannot change your entry once it has been submitted. Judging will be based on creativity and on use of artistic principles (balanced composition, color harmony, etc.)

:bulletred: Post your entry in your gallery and then send us note with a link to the image. Use "UFT 1" as the note subject. Be sure to include the params in your note.

:bulletred: Deadline for Round One will be Friday, October 20th (Midnight Central Time). The winners will be announced Tuesday, October 24th and will advance to the next round. If we do not receive your image and image params by the deadline you will be disqualified.

The Competitors - Head to head pairings for the Advanced Division are as follows:

Round One – Beginner Division

The challenge for this first Beginner round is – “Black and White”

When you start using UF you find out fairly soon is that you can get some interesting coloring effects using merge modes like Difference, Addition, Subtraction, etc. The problem is, however, that we can sometimes learn to depend on these for coloring instead of taking the time to learn how to really control the Gradient Editor. So this first challenge will be to create images that use simple black and white gradients.

Here are the round rules:

:bulletred: Images must be Black and White (or shades of gray in between).

:bulletred: Image must be created entirely in UF. Minimal post is allowed, however, you cannot use postwork to make your image black and white. Parameters will be required to ensure that black and white gradients are used.

:bulletred: Entries allowed from tournament competitors only. You may only submit one image, and you cannot change your entry once it has been submitted. Judging will be based on creativity. Since color is not an issue, design becomes more important.

The Competitors - Head to head pairings for the Beginner Division are as follows:

So it’s game time! Y’all shake hands and let’s get it on! If you have any questions just post a comment on this journal. Because of the timing and length of this journal, we are going to wait until Wednesday, October 11th to announce the regular monthly contest.
