One of the things that I really love about UF is the ability to add textures to our fractals. Textures do so much to really make our images "touchable" that I feel it is an essential for good UF work. That being said, this month the contest is...



The idea this month is to try to do your best texture work. I am inspired by many Ultra Fractal artists, but the artist that I would consider to be the Texture King would be Dan Kuzmenka. ( Dan's Rendo Gallery )

There are many ways to apply texture. Some algorithms, like Doodads, Doodads II, Thingamajigs and others, come with texture parameters within the ucl that you can play with. You can also add texture by using a Pixel formula with a texture coloring algorithm and mask it to specific areas of your fractal. Some good algorithms that work well with pixel formulas are:

Cluster
Hodge
Perlin Noise (and Perlin Noise 3D)
Plasma
Weave

(sam.ucl) -
3D SFBM
S.F.B.M II (and S.F.B.M Pixel)
Truchet FBM

And I'm sure y'all know of plenty others. Actually, any formula with any OCA can be used as a texture. Just let your imagination run wild!

So here are the Texture Eyez Me Contest Rules:


Image must a new creation. Not one previously posted in your gallery, or even a derivative of an image you've done before. Entirely new.

Image must be created entirely in UF. (Minimal post allowed)

Post your entry in your gallery and then send us note with a link to the image. Use "Contest" as the note subject.

Entries allowed from members only. You may only submit one image, and you cannot change your entry once it has been submitted.

Deadline for the Texture Eyez Me Contest will be Friday, September 29th (Midnight Central Time). Voting will run from September 30th through October 3rd (Midnight Central).

The winner(s) will be announced Wednesday, Oct 4th. The first-place winner will be the Artist of the Month for October with the winning entry as the Featured Deviation for the month of October.

We will announce and begin sign-up for the Ultra Fractal Group Tournament this coming Friday, September 15th. We will have two divisions, Beginner and Advanced, and if you can't decide which category you belong in, we can decide for you, lol.

We don't want this to be a big issue, but what we really don't want is for someone to say they are a beginner when they aren't, just so they have a better chance of winning. Our panel of judges can make a determination if there are any questions.

Speaking of the Judges, we have been honored to have some excellent UF artists agree to help. The judges are:

The basic idea is that you will be paired up in each round, with the winners of each round advancing. We will run as many preliminary rounds as needed, depending on the number of contestants, with the judges panel determining the winners in each round. For the final rounds, the group will get to vote for the champions.

We will have great prizes for both divisions, but we'll let you know what they are when we officially announce the tournament next week.
